A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
