Following weeks of tension, schemes and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting end
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article discloses details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed murders, double-crosses, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced the overwhelming suspense.
Yet on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
Out of nineteen participants, only five were left standing: Deceivers and loyal players competing for the winnings.
Before long, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the final players.
In the end, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a shocking outcome that went viral and left him emotional.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the other players that he was actually a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms quickly erupted with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," commented a viewer.
"There could not have been a more iconic ending," stated another, while a third described it as "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive all the prize money, with the final pot reaching £87,500.
The comedian's evolution from giggle liability to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the season.
However, his victory still shocked viewers surprised, according to industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, of all people, executing an expert performance in deceit felt about as likely as him maintaining a straight face through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.
"Alan could have appeared to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," a player said.
"Most people didn't target him because how does one eliminate someone who is so charming?" questioned another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his experience with the show.
"I want to participate once more... I don't think it would be successful again!"
Thursday evening's episode was extended to over an hour on the network. There was an unusual opening than typical episodes, as all the celebs knew who would appear at the breakfast table.
There was particularly inspiring, and atypical for the show music, as we recapped key scenes from each of the finalists' experience in the game.
True to form, Alan Carr provided some of the most memorable lines.
"Let's face it, I began this game as something of an anxious mess. I've betrayed some really good friends under the bus, I've murdered national treasures in plain sight. Apparently I'm a better liar and traitor than I believed."
At the same time, another contestant noted that being in the final was "way more stressful than competing with England", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, various contestants seemed to be attempting to become the new style icon of the castle, replacing the previously eliminated style leader.
Carr emerged at breakfast looking like a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
But he was out-jacketted by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.
Following this was the competition, with the final players boarding a train named - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task involved destroying images of former contestants. Spare a thought for a player who managed to get hit on the head multiple times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.
Before long, the moment arrived for the roundtable.
The deceivers did a pinky promise in advance, pledging to stick together. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," said one, while their partner just giggled.
And one did stick to their agreement. But, having slipped under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The remaining traitor appeared he was in a world of pain to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."
Social media and viewers were equally disappointed.
"I did NOT want this contestant to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," said a commentator.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," posted another user.
However, there remained little opportunity to dwell on their elimination. Soon, they were at the final stage - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The final four gathered around the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership broke down, just when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
A player was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who turned against them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back at the final moment like that," said the eliminated player. Later, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the eliminated contestant calls the other as a traitor.
Finally, just three players were still competing: the final trio.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and it all came down to the final participant, who did the same - which meant that the deceiver emerged victorious.
According to commentators, the scene where the other players comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be a contender for memorable moment at television honors," they commented.
Fortunately, the winner soon recovered from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and now I stand a winner," he said.
And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by leaning toward the presenter in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, plotting and the occasional surprising incidents may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually occur. And we will miss it.
