Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
