The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl containing several human souls within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Within her reside four separate personas, each with their own anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy hospital, though other scenes depict the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Horror

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the girl one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the waiting room have large flowers growing from their heads are. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, because each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
